An early Victorian sapphire intaglio ring carved with a family crest centred with an owl inside a shield sitting on a leafy branch, surmounted with a coronet of three strawberry leaves and two pearls symbolising a Marquess or Marchioness. The owl is the symbol of wisdom and prudence. The ring is surrounded by a border of old mine cut diamonds and is set in 18ct gold and silver. Circa 1840.

The head of the ring measures 1.5cm from north to south. The central sapphire which is set in a rub-over setting is approximately 9mm x 7mm and is approximately 3.45 carats with 60 points of old mine cut diamonds
